Extension in Bishopston, Bristol

archipeleco were appointed by a homeowner in Bishopston wanting to improve the kitchen and dining area in their family home. Their old kitchen at the back of their house was cramped and it blocked their access to a lovely south facing garden. The dining room was separated from the kitchen by a narrow stepped passage making the layout less than ideal. The main constraint from the outside was that the owner wanted to match the existing roofline of the neighbour’s house to avoid the new extension looming over them.

The solution was to swap the position of the dining room and kitchen, to marry up the floor levels and provide a new rear terrace with a generously sized opening between to connect the new dining area with the back garden. A new contemporary kitchen was added as well as a new downstairs cloakroom. High performance windows and doors were used and the external envelope of the back of the house was greatly improved by using new internal insulation.
