Non Residential

Hillmead Community Centre

In this project, archipeleco were employed by HTA Architects to design a new community centre and fifteen flats for Metropolitan Housing Trust.

The site is in central Brixton, London, in the grounds of a disused school.

The community centre is used by a large number of organisations ranging from youth groups playing 5-a-side football to bingo evenings and crèche facilities so flexibility was an essential part of the brief. In addition to the large hall space, the centre includes office space, a meeting room and a kitchen.

The building was carefully positioned on the site in order to preserve an existing cherry tree which is the centre piece of the adjacent community garden.
