Lateral Extension in Westbury Park, Bristol

The owners of a solidly built Victorian terrace in Westbury Park loved the location of their home and wanted to stay in the house but also wanted to improve the kitchen and dining area. It is a familiar story and one that archipeleco solved with a lateral extension.

The existing kitchen was too small for family dining and was rather gloomy because it faced north – both client and architects agreed that more light and space was needed. The kitchen was extended out into the side yard and a glass roof added to capture the daylight. A new deck and large bi-fold doors were added to allow the family to spill out into the back garden. An internal window in the back of the kitchen provides the middle room with borrowed light. A new utility room embedded in the back of the kitchen allows the functional part of the house to be conveniently located yet concealed.
