Greenhouse Hotel, Bournemouth

archipeleco was appointed by City Eco Hotel with a brief to create the greenest hotel refurbishment in the UK.

The Greenhouse Hotel is a 32 room boutique hotel with restaurant, bar and conference facilities near the seafront in Bournemouth. It is a Grade II listed Gothic revival building that required a top-to bottom refurbishment to turn it into a beautiful four star hotel with deep green credentials.

archipeleco was the lead consultant in charge of seeing the £3m project through all the stages from conception to completion. We carried out the overall design of the hotel (working closely with the client’s interior designer) and successfully negotiated the scheme through the planning process. Gaining listed building consent was a particular challenge and required six separate rounds of revisions being submitted before the scheme was finally approved. archipeleco fought to get sustainable features approved when others might have given up. We managed to get approval for solar panels on the roof, double glazing for the large windows on the front elevation, enhanced insulation to the external walls and roof, new rooms within the roof space, a super efficient combined heat and power system as well getting approval for major changes to the building layout, new outbuildings, disabled access, new lift, and new interiors throughout.

archipeleco oversaw the production of a full set of tender drawings and specification (working with PWP architects), carried out contract administration and regular site inspections during the construction stage of the contract.
